Art, creation, and the pursuit of excellence

Early on in the company we had to reconcile the fact that while we deeply believed in the company called Paleo Treats®, at the end of the day all we're doing is making cookies.  Damn good cookies, cookies that follow a fairly strict diet, but cookies nonetheless.

They don't solve any world problems, they aren't the kind of thing that'll win a Nobel prize, and they aren't some ultimate answer to the question of life.

It wasn't the kind of realization that makes you want to come to work, but...   there was something about Paleo Treats® that kept us coming back.

I thought about it for a while, really trying to answer what it is that's so captivating about making cookies (and the rest of our paleo desserts), and after a couple of months of solitudinal thinking, I came up with the simplest thing possible: Excellence.

It's that quest to make the very best of something, to do it in as clean a way as possible, and to create an entity that treats people, all people, like the awesome founts of potential they are.

That's why we're stoked to come to work, to make a new cookie, it's that relentless pursuit of excellence that draws us. It surfaces everywhere we look in the company and has become this rallying point when we're not sure what to do next.

Do the excellent thing.  Take the hard road.  Spend the extra money for the nice t-shirts, for the sticker that is bombproof, for the right insulated box.  It's made a lot of decisions that could've been hard, easy.  Just do the right thing, always.  Go for it.
